John R. Cook Ph.D.
Registered Psychologist

John is a clinical psychologist (CPBC1025), and founder of Aegis Psychological Services. Over half his nearly 30 years as a clinician have been spent locally helping people with stress and anxiety-related conditions, earning him the title of Victoria's "Fear Doctor". He has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of North Dakota, and a Masters in School Psychology from the University of Toronto.

John specializes in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and its successor Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), with adults and youth.  CBT and ACT are research-proven approaches that help people relate to their negative emotions such as anxiety and depression in more productive ways.

He teaches these and other self-help techniques such as hypnosis in both one-on-one and group sessions.

A large portion of John's work is with people who have post-traumatic stress from work-related incidents, motor vehicle accidents, or the impact of crime or abuse as a child. He uses trauma desensitization supplemented with eye movement therapies called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and One Eye Integration (OEI).

For additional information, refer to John's resume and Web links, or call 881-1206 to schedule a 20-minute, complimentary information session.

Note:  Complimentary information sessions are not considered part of therapy, and are intended for informational purposes only.
